UNIVERSITY-SCHOOL COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
We partner with California State University, San Marcos (CSUSM) to provide community service learning and internship opportunities for CSUSM students in the local school communities.
We help to coordinate the recruitment, intake process, and placement of CSUSM students for in-school, lunchtime, and after-school tutoring/mentoring.
University tutors/mentors serve as role models, helping children/youth to experience success and enjoyment in their learning and growing academically and in wholeness and health.
We partner with experienced and dedicated school site supervisors and grade-level teacher leaders to provide mutually beneficial tutoring/mentoring assignments for our CSUSM students. Both tutors and learners are fully engaged in focused learning.
The results of this university-school community partnership have been fulfilling for both university students and the children/youth they serve. Children make significant progress in their learning. University students gain invaluable experience serving alongside experienced teachers and counselors who serve as mentors/coaches and role models for them.
University students may apply each semester to North County Outreach Initiative through their CSUSM Service Learning portal at:
