FAMILIES: We encourage you to prepare your family for this Sunday’s Mass with this Family Catechesis Session in your own home before Sunday.
JESUS said: I AM THE GOOD SHEPHERD
Jesus “knows his sheep by name.” He knows everything about each of us and wants to help us be all that we can be.
The sheep “listen to his voice”. What is The Good Shepherd saying to you?
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus says he is like a shepherd who wants to care for his sheep because he loves them. Because he loves the sheep, the Good Shepherd will do anything to keep them safe to live a wonderful life in His Kingdom.
Read aloud this Sunday’s Gospel in English and in Spanish
The Good Shepherd calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
El Buen Pastor llama por nombre a sus propias ovejas y las guía
When he has brought out all of his own sheep, he goes on ahead of them.
Cuando ya ha sacado a todas sus ovejas, va delante de ellas,
His sheep follow him because they know his voice.
las ovejas lo siguen porque reconocen su voz
But they will never follow a stranger. In fact, they will run away from him.
Pero nunca siguen a un desconocido; Más bien, huyen de él.
They do not recognize a stranger’s voice.

I have come that they may have life. I want them to have it in the fullest possible way.

I am the Good Shepherd. I know my sheep and my sheep know me.

They know me just as the Father knows me and I know the Father.

And I give my life for the sheep.

I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also.

They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.

Jesus is really saying that he loves us so much that he did all he did while on earth—not because he had to, but because he wanted to. Everything he did, he did out of love for us.
How can we show Jesus, OUR Good Shepherd that we LOVE him and want to follow him with all our hearts?
Honor the Good Shepherd: Meet Jesus at MASS.
PRAY Every Day. Listen and obey Jesus.
CHOOSE to Learn and Grow every day! (especially with tutors!)
Love and care for others as Jesus did.
Conclude in prayer, asking Jesus to help us show our love and respect for Him as our Good Shepherd by listening and obeying what He tells us to do. Pray together Psalm 23: The Lord is My Shepherd:
1. The Lord is my shepherd. He gives me everything I need.
2 He lets me lie down in fields of green grass.
He leads me beside quiet waters.
3 He gives me new strength.
He guides me in the right paths
for the honor of his name.
4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid. You are with me. Your shepherd’s rod and staff comfort me.
5 You prepare a feast for me
right in front of my enemies.
You pour oil on my head.
My cup runs over.
6 I am sure that your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life. And I will live in the house of the Lord forever.
