MASS PREPARATION: Your FAMILY is God’s Domestic Church!

Opening Worship: Father I Have Sinned

The family IS where children can truly learn who God is and prayerfully seek His will for their lives. Parents set the example that children will follow in ALL parts of life.

Our Family Catechesis Mission is to help families honor God with the way they live their everyday lives: Loving and Serving God and others with all their hearts…..

Here are suggestions for developing your family as a “domestic church” that can help ALL members of your family.

  1. Pray a blessing from your heart over your children every day/evening.

2. Create a quiet prayer area with a crucifix or Icon of the resurrected Jesus, or

Holy Mary, Mother of God for family prayer and Bible Study several times a

week.

3. Read and discuss a Bible Story or the Sunday Mass Scripture/Liturgy together at least once a week before and/or after attending Mass as a Family.

4. Attend Mass Preparation Sessions and MASS as a Family to experience God’s

PRESENCE: Share how God’s love touched your heart.

5. Practice a daily prayer process as a family which includes

  1. Adoring God,

  2. Confessing when we were not the best version of our selves and asking God for forgiveness

  3. Thanking God for his many blessings, and,

  4. Praying for God’s help for ourselves and others.

6. Serve the needs of others in the greater community as a FAMILY

7. Learn and Pray a Family Rosary to become all God created you to be as

a FAMILY and to offer prayer intentions for others.

7. Keep a journal of all that God is doing in your life.

QUESTIONS

Which two practices do you want to make more of a priority for your family’s devotion to God over the summer?

In the CHAT or in a text to Ms. Sue 760.445.4049

Example:

Family Name: BENTLEY

#1, # 7

Comments:

#1: We want to pray a blessing for and connect with every Family Catechesis family during the summer to discern which families God is calling us to serve in the Fall.

#7: We want to help empower families who are interested in making the Family Rosary a powerful part of their Family Prayer

FOCUS for MASS PREPARATION:

Confession BEFORE Hearing God's WORD

It IS a blessing to see that more and more of you, AS FAMILIES, are learning deeply in your heart, that God always FORGIVES ALL OUR SINS as we humbly confess them to Almighty God. This IS the first step toward the HEALING of our souls so that we can become all God created us to be.

It is very important to pray a sincere confession before we attempt to read and meditate on God's HOLY WORD. God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins as we confess them with a humble heart.

PENITENTIAL RITE (Confession)

At the beginning of the Mass, BEFORE we hear God’s word, we participate in the Penitential Act where we we confess our sins humbly, ask for mercy, and accept his pardon so we can be cleansed to hear God’s WORD with ALL of our Hearts and Souls.

The Priest and PEOPLE:

I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,

(We strike our breast):

through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault;

Then we continue:

therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

ABSOLUTION: God forgives our sins through the words spoken by the priest:

May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.

You can say this prayer as a FAMILY before you begin reading God's WORD in your FAMILY DEVOTION TIME and ask for God's mercy and grace as a family!!!
