Notes:

What do we mean by Liturgy?

Liturgy:

Christ continuing his work through the Church’s WORSHIP of God and celebration of the Paschal Mystery during the year.

Paschal Mystery:

Jesus’ work of saving of the human race through his Passion (suffering), Death, Resurrection and Ascension; the name we give to God’ plan of saving us in Jesus

In the liturgy of the MASS, we ALL, with the help of the Holy Spirit join with Christ to give thanks and praise to the Father in prayer.

What does the LITURGY include?

AT Mass

Liturgy of God’s WORD: Sacred Scripture

Liturgy of the Eucharist: Sacrament of the Eucharist

NICENE CREED (Profession of Faith)

What happens to us when we celebrate the Sacraments?

Our relationship with:

the Holy Trinity—

God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy, and

the Church stronger (God’s family)

becomes STRONGER and STRONGER.

SACRAMENTS:

Seven main liturgical celebrations of the Church, given to us by Christ, that make us sharers in the life of God, through out participation in the Paschal Mystery of Christ.

What are the 7 Sacraments?

Sacraments of Initiation (into God’s Family)

Baptism

Eucharist (starting with FIRST COMMUNION)

Confirmation

Sacraments of Healing

Reconciliation and Penance (soul)

Anointing of the Sick (physical)

Sacraments at the Service of Communion

Holy Matrimony (marriage in the Church)

Holy Orders (becoming a priest, deacon…..)

This is our Catholic faith.

Celebrating the Sacraments joins us more closely with God and with the People of God, the Church.
