THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT
ALWAYS remember that Jesus taught us clearly how we were created to live in God’s Kingdom. God loves us, is always with us, and wants us to be all we were created to be.
Jesus said, you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important commandment.
The second and greatest commandment is like it. Love your neighbor as you love yourself.
The whole Law of Moses the teachings of the prophets depend on these two commandments.
Matthew 22:37-40.
The Law of Moses is another name for the TEN COMMANDMENTS that God gave to Moses to teach the people how to live in a perfect and fulfilling way with the TRINITY: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit/
God blessed us with the GIFT of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. With this gift, we are cleansed from original sin and personal sin so we can live a NEW life as CHILDREN of GOD in his Family.
Summary of the Ten Commandments:
Commandments 1-3 are examples of how we are to LOVE GOD
Commandments 4-10 are example of how we are to LOVE OTHERS.
LOVING GOD
1. I am the Lord your God: you shall not have other gods beside me.
(Believe in God and love him above ALL things.)
2. You shall not take the NAME of God in vain.
(We always show RESPECT for God and His Holy Name in our words and actions and
in our hearts.)
3. Remember to Keep the Lord’s Day holy.
(This is much more than just showing up for MASS!!!
God wants all of us to gather as a family/community to be in His Presence. He wants us to receive his nourishment for us all: His WORD, and most of all his divine Body and Blood in the Eucharist.)
LOVING OTHERS
4. Honor your father and your mother.
(This commandment calls us to respect and show gratitude to our parents and all those
who care for us, including our teachers!)
5. You shall not kill
(Respect every human life as sacred)
6. You shall not commit adultery.
(A baptized man and a baptized woman are called to BE FAITHFUL to one another.
We are all called to be faithful to our commitments to God and others.)
7. You shall not steal
(This commandment calls us to respect others and not take what rightfully belongs to
another. )
8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
(We are called to be like Jesus, always seeing and telling the truth from God’s eyes of
love. We are to share the truth in a way that builds unity in God’s Kingdom.)
9. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife.
(We are to respect the human body, and everyone’s body as God’s creation and the
temple of the Holy Spirit.)
10. You shall not covet your neighbors goods.
(Remember the Beatitude: Blessed (Happy) are those who are poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:3. We don’t need or yearn for things to be happy. We can then share what we have with others especially our lives. We can then truly live with Christ, passing from death in the world to eternal life in God’s Kingdom now and forever!)

In what ways do the Commandments guide us in our relationship with God, our neighbors and ourselves.
God gave us the Commandments to guide us in how we live our daily lives in relationship with God, our neighbors, and ourselves.
2. How does living the Ten Commandments unite us to the Paschal Mystery
The Paschal Mystery is the name we give to God’s plan of saving us in Jesus.
Jesus suffered and died for OUR sins: past, present, and future.
Christ’s suffering and death brings a deep sadness to our hearts for our sins against God’s Commandments.
We MOURN when we sin.
We seek God’s forgiveness and mercy
God FORGIVES us for our sins and gives us NEW life and the grace (strength) we need to choose to sin no more.
Jesus Christ was raised from the Dead by God the Father. He was resurrected and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God in victory over sin and death.
We show our love and respect to God as we live out the Greatest Commandment in our daily lives with all our hearts, minds, and souls.
3. What are signs that we are living the Ten Commandments?
We show by our words and actions that God is truly #1 in our lives.
Others can see God’s love and the light of the Beatitudes in our character and how we treat others:
humble, mourning when we sin, meek, desiring to do what God requires, merciful, pure in heart, working for peace, willingly face persecution in proclaiming God’s Word.
c. We show a yearning to continually learn and grow to become more like Christ every
day.
d. We show that we are fulfilled and happy in God’s Kingdom on earth as it is in
heaven!!!
DEFINITIONS:
Sin: an offense against God by a person who freely chooses to do what is wrong: breaking God’s commandments.
Ten Commandments: The laws God gave to Moses that define our basic duties and responsibilities to God, our neighbors and ourselves.
Paschal Mystery:
Christ’s passing over to Father from Death through his Passion, Death, Resurrection, and Ascension;
The Paschal Mystery is the name we give to God’s plan of saving us in Jesus.

NOTAS IMPORTANTES
EL MAYOR MANDAMIENTO
SIEMPRE recuerda que Jesús nos enseñó claramente cómo fuimos creados para vivir en el Reino de Dios. Dios nos ama, siempre está con nosotros y quiere que seamos todo lo que fuimos creados para ser.
Jesús dijo: Amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma y con toda tu mente. Este es el mandamiento más grande y más importante.
El segundo y mayor mandamiento es semejante. Ama a tu prójimo como te amas a ti mismo.
Toda la Ley de Moisés y las enseñanzas de los profetas dependen de estos dos mandamientos.
Mateo 22:37-40 .
La Ley de Moisés es otro nombre de los DIEZ MANDAMIENTOS que Dios le dio a Moisés para enseñar al pueblo a vivir de manera perfecta y plena con la TRINIDAD: Dios Padre, Dios Hijo y Dios Espíritu Santo/
Dios nos bendijo con el DON del Espíritu Santo en el Sacramento del Santo Bautismo. Con este don somos limpiados del pecado original y del pecado personal para poder vivir una NUEVA vida como HIJOS de DIOS en su Familia.

Los mandamientos 1-3 son ejemplos de cómo debemos AMAR A DIOS
Los mandamientos 4-10 son ejemplo de cómo debemos AMAR A LOS DEMÁS.
AMAR A DIOS
1. Yo soy el Señor tu Dios: no tendrás otros dioses fuera de mí .
(Creer en Dios y amarlo sobre TODAS las cosas.)
2. No tomarás el NOMBRE de Dios en vano.
(Siempre mostramos RESPETO por Dios y Su Santo Nombre en nuestras palabras y
acciones y en nuestros corazones).
3. Acuérdate del santo día del Señor.
(¡Esto es mucho más que solo asistir a MASS!
Dios quiere que todos nos reunamos como comunidad para estar en Su Presencia. Él quiere que recibamos su alimento para todos nosotros: Su PALABRA, y sobre todo su Cuerpo y Sangre divinos en la Eucaristía.)
AMAR A LOS DEMÁS
4. Honra a tu padre ya tu madre.
(Este mandamiento nos llama a respetar y mostrar gratitud a nuestros padres y a todos los que nos cuidan, ¡incluidos nuestros maestros!)
5. No matarás
(Respetar toda vida humana como sagrada.)
6. No cometerás adulterio.
(Un hombre bautizado y una mujer bautizada están llamados a SER FIELES el uno al otro. Todos estamos llamados a ser fieles a nuestros compromisos con Dios y con los demás.)
7. No robarás
(Este mandamiento nos llama a respetar a los demás y no tomar lo que legítimamente pertenece a otro.)
8. No darás falso testimonio contra tu prójimo.
(Estamos llamados a ser como Jesús, siempre viendo y diciendo la verdad desde los ojos del amor de Dios. Debemos compartir la verdad de una manera que construya la unidad en el Reino de Dios.)
9. No codiciarás la mujer de tu prójimo.
(Debemos respetar el cuerpo humano y el cuerpo de todos como creación de Dios y templo del Espíritu Santo.)
10. No codiciarás los bienes de tu prójimo.
(Recuerda la Bienaventuranza: Bienaventurados (Felices) los que son pobres en espíritu, porque de ellos es el reino de los cielos (Mateo 5:3. No necesitamos ni anhelamos las cosas para ser felices. Entonces podemos compartir lo que tenemos con otros, especialmente nuestra vida, ¡podemos entonces vivir verdaderamente con Cristo, pasando de la muerte en el mundo a la vida eterna en el Reino de Dios ahora y para siempre!)

¿De qué manera nos guían los Mandamientos en nuestra relación con Dios, nuestro prójimo y nosotros mismos?
Dios nos tiene los Mandamientos para guiarnos en cómo vivimos nuestra vida diaria en relación con Dios, nuestro prójimo y nosotros mismos.
¿Cómo nos une la vivencia de los Diez Mandamientos al Misterio Pascual?
El Misterio Pascual es el nombre que damos al plan de Dios para salvarnos en Jesús.
Jesús sufrió y murió por NUESTROS pecados: pasados, presentes y futuros.
El sufrimiento y la muerte de Cristo trae una profunda tristeza a nuestros corazones por nuestros pecados contra los Mandamientos de Dios.
LLORAMOS cuando pecamos.
Buscamos el perdón y la misericordia de Dios
Dios nos PERDONA por nuestros pecados y nos da NUEVA vida y la gracia (fortaleza) que necesitamos para elegir no pecar más.
Jesucristo fue resucitado de entre los muertos por Dios Padre. Resucitó y ascendió al cielo y está sentado a la diestra de Dios en victoria sobre el pecado y la muerte.
Mostramos nuestro amor y respeto a Dios al vivir el Mayor Mandamiento en nuestra vida diaria con todo nuestro corazón, mente y alma.
¿Cuáles son las señales de que estamos viviendo los Diez Mandamientos?
Mostramos por nuestras palabras y acciones que Dios es verdaderamente el #1 en nuestras vidas.
Otros pueden ver el amor de Dios y la luz de las Bienaventuranzas en nuestro carácter y en cómo tratamos a los demás:
humildes, afligidos cuando pecamos, mansos, deseando hacer lo que Dios requiere, misericordiosos, puros de corazón, trabajando por la paz, voluntariamente enfrentando la persecución al proclamar la Palabra de Dios.
c. Mostramos un anhelo de aprender y crecer continuamente para llegar a ser más
como Cristo cada día.
d. ¡Demostramos que estamos realizados y felices en el Reino de Dios en la tierra
como lo es en el cielo!
DEFINICIONES:
Pecado: una ofensa contra Dios por parte de una persona que elige libremente hacer lo que está mal: quebrantar los mandamientos de Dios.
Diez Mandamientos: Las leyes que Dios le dio a Moisés que definen nuestros deberes y responsabilidades básicas hacia Dios, nuestro prójimo y nosotros mismos.
Misterio Pascual:
el paso de Cristo al Padre desde la Muerte a través de su Pasión, Muerte, Resurrección y Ascensión;
El Misterio Pascual es el nombre que damos al plan de Dios para salvarnos en Jesús.
