This session is VERY important for First Communion and Confirmation Preparation Families!

REVIEW Story #59 Jesus appears to his disciples and then ASCENDS into heaven

  1. Jesus stayed with his disciples for 40 days after he was resurrected.

  2. He taught them and prepared them to share the GOOD NEWS of how God sent his only Son, Jesus, to set us free from SIN and DEATH.

  3. Jesus gave his disciples and ALL OF US the Great Commission: "Go out to the whole world and make disciples of all nations. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Teach them to live as I've taught you. I will be with you until the end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20. THIS IS OUR MISSION IN LIFE FROM GOD!!!!

  4. Jesus promised that he would send the Holy Spirit to give them power and to guide them!

This SUMMER, as powerful disciples of Jesus, we definitely want you to continue reading and sharing the Bible Chronicles from Story #1 Creation to Story #70 when Jesus returns and brings the NEW HEAVEN and the NEW NEW EARTH.

Today we are continuing the part of God's story where Jesus ascends into heaven (Story #59) then sends the POWER of the Holy Spirit to give understanding, wisdom and strength to his disciples and ALL OF US who believe and are BAPTIZED in the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit! (Story #60)

  1. 50 days after Jesus was resurrected from the dead, something amazing happened! (Read page 270). Describe what happened in your own words! (A strong wind rushed into the room where disciples and Mary were. They saw what seemed like little fires being lit over their heads! They were filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in all kinds of languages so everyone from all over understood.one another. This was happening by the power of the Holy Spirit. It was like the Tower of Babel turned around. (Remember Story #5 where very proud men were trying to be all powerful in place of God. God scattered them all over. Here at Pentecost, God is uniting ALL believers to love and understand one another through the POWER of the Holy Spirit.)

2. Describe in your own words what Peter said about Jesus:

  • Jesus was sent by God the Father

  • By God's power he performed mighty signs and wonders: healed the sick, forgave sins, fed the hungry, showed God's LOVE for ALL.

  • But evil men who saw him as a threat, tried to stop him.

  • They crucified him hoping to get rid of him.

  • But God raised Jesus from the dead....conquering sin and death for ALL of us.

  • Peter said he was an EYE WITNESS and saw all of this with his own eyes.

  • Peter said to those who opposed Jesus: "God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.
