and gave them new life

Send your Holy Spirit upon them to be their helper and guide.

We ask this through Christ ur lord. AMEN

LESSON 15. Why do I have to go to Mass? Encountering Jesus in the Eucharist.

Segment 1: What Happens at Mass

  1. When the gifts of bread and wine are consecrated, they become the BODY and BLOOD of Christ.

  2. This miracle from God is called: Transubstantiation . We actually take into our souls part of the person of the Son of God EVERY time we receive the Eucharist .

Segment 2: Walter's Story: He is a living modern day example of someone who is willing to be a living sacrifice showing the LOVE of Christ for others.

  1. Just like Walter, we are called to remember Christ's words: "This is my Body, given up for you. " Listen carefully when the priest says Jesus' words in the Eucharistic Prayer at Mass!

  2. We ARE saved from a life of sin and death through the life, death, Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus Christ.

  3. Jesus IS the Lamb of God who takes away our sins.

  4. What will you say to Jesus when he says to you through the priest,"Do this in memory of what I did for you.".

Segment 3 Preparing for Mass/Eucharist Eucharist means THANKSGIVING

  1. Dress with respect

  2. Prepare your HEART

    1. Go to confession often

    2. Fast one hour before Mass

    3. Go to mass early so you can quiet your heart and focus on Jesus!

  3. Sit in a quiet area where you can see the priest as he prays

  4. Receive the readings (Read over the readings before the mass; Reflect on how God spoke to your heart in the readings and homily throughout the week.)

  5. Be honest with God....Bring everything in your heart to his altar.
