SAINT NICHOLAS:  The REAL SANTA

December 6th is the day we celebrate a very special saint:  Saint Nicholas.

Remember him as the REAL SANTA:

  • The real Santa lived a long time ago (where Turkey is today)

  • His parents died when he was young and left him a lot of money.

  • He grew up with his uncle who was a priest and he learned to love God.

  • Nicholas did not keep his $$ for himself, but gave it generously to those in need.

  • Best STORY:  There was a poor man with three daughters with nothing left to eat.  (Mother had died.)  They were very sad.  The daughters would have to be someone’s slaves to stay alive.  The night before the oldest daughter was to be sold, she put her clean stockings in front of the fire to dry and the family went to sleep.  In the morning the daughter found coins in her stocking…..The next morning, another bag of coins had been left.  The father stayed awake the next night to find out who was secretly bringing the coins…..It was Nicholas…Nicholas said to the man:  ”Please don’t thank me---thank God that your prayers have been answered.  Do NOT tell others about me.”

  • Nicholas continued to help people in need.  Even as a famous bishop, he showed people how to love God and care for each other.

  • Everyone loved Nicholas.  Even after he died, they continued to tell stories of how he helped and protected everyone, especially children.

  • Saint Nicholas is an example of how God wants us to live as His EVERYDAY SAINTS.

  • What have you learned about how to live your life from this REAL Santa?

  • Who can you help or give a gift to in secret this Christmas?
