Our Catholic Identity: CHAPTER 14: THE LORD'S PRAYER

The Lord's Prayer is the central prayer of the Church. Along

with the Creed, it is a symbol of the faith of the Church.

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name;

thy kingdom come,

thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses, (SINS)

as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,

AMEN

THE LORD’S PRAYER – 7 PETITIONS

Sample Reflections:

1. Hallowed Be Your Name

Sometimes I forget how holy God is.

When I pray this, I’m asking God to help me respect His name in how I speak and live.

(God’s name is holy, and we honor Him by our words and actions.)

I honor God when my life reflects who He is.

Scripture. “Holy is his name.” — Gospel of Luke 1:49

CCC 2807. We ask that God’s name be kept holy among us.

2. Your Kingdom Come

Sometimes I want things my way.

This prayer reminds me that God’s kingdom is about love, justice, and peace.

(God’s Kingdom grows when we live like Jesus.)

God’s Kingdom begins in the choices I make every day.

Scripture. “The kingdom of God is at hand.” — Gospel of Mark 1:15

CCC 2816God’s Kingdom is present in Christ and grows in us.

3. Your Will Be Done

Sometimes God’s will is not what I want.

This prayer helps me trust Him.(God’s will leads to what is truly good for us.)

Trusting God means choosing His way over mine.

CCC 2825We ask for the grace to do God’s will.

4. Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread

Sometimes I take what I have for granted.

This prayer reminds me that everything I have is from God.

(God provides for all our needs (physical, spiritual, emotional) each day.)

God gives me what I need—today.

Scripture “Give us this day our daily bread.” — Gospel of Matthew 6:11

CCC 2837 We trust God for our daily needs.

5. Forgive Us Our Trespasses

Sometimes it’s hard to admit when I’m wrong.

This prayer reminds me to ask for forgiveness—and give it.

(God forgives us and calls us to forgive others.)

I receive mercy—and I give it.

Scripture. “Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” — Gospel of Luke 6:37

CCC 2840 God’s forgiveness is linked to forgiving others.

6. Lead Us Not Into Temptation

Temptation shows up in small choices.

I ask God to help me choose what is right.

(God strengthens us to resist sin.)

Every temptation is a chance to choose good.

CCC 2846 We ask God to keep us from the path of sin.

7. Deliver Us From Evil

Sometimes the world feels heavy or confusing.

This prayer reminds me God protects me.

(God frees us from evil and brings us to safety.)

God is stronger than any evil.

Scripture “The Lord will guard you from all evil.” — Book of Psalms 121:7

CCC 2850 We ask to be freed from evil and the Evil One.

1. Santificado sea tu Nombre

A veces olvido que Dios es santo.

Cuando rezo esto, le pido que me ayude a respetar su nombre con mi vida.

(El nombre de Dios es santo y lo honramos con nuestras palabras y acciones.)

Honro a Dios cuando mi vida refleja quién es Él.

2. Venga tu Reino

A veces quiero que todo sea a mi manera.

Esta oración me recuerda que el Reino de Dios es amor y paz.(

El Reino crece cuando vivimos como Jesús.)

El Reino de Dios empieza en mis decisiones diarias.

3. Hágase tu voluntad

A veces la voluntad de Dios no es lo que yo quiero.

A veces doy por hecho lo que tengo.

5. Perdona nuestras ofensas

A veces es difícil admitir mis errores.

Esta oración me recuerda pedir perdón y también perdonar.

6. No nos dejes caer en la tentación
