PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM
The NORTH COUNTY OUTREACH INITIATIVE (NCOI) provides:

Community service learning students with an opportunity to tutor/mentor two to three K-5 children in greatest need in a safe, nurturing environment at a local elementary or middle school in the Vista Unified School District.

Interns with an opportunity to develop a mutually beneficial internship plan aligned with their advanced/capstone courses of study. (e.g. Advanced Spanish: 40+ hours, HD495: 90 hours)

We welcome community service learning students/interns to engage in a mutually beneficial partnership in the following areas: reading, English language development, BASIC math, social emotional learning and character formation.
High Priorities: K-8 Math/Science, Potential Teacher Education Credential Candidates, Spanish Fluency to Assist English Learners, Human Development
In-School Tutoring/Mentoring in K-5 classrooms (IN PERSON)
Mondays-Fridays:

Service Learning Students: approximately 2 hours a week

Interns: 4-9 hours/week
After School Tutoring Mentoring (IN PERSON)

2025-2026 SERVICE LEARNING CHECKLIST
If you are interested, please complete the following steps

Complete Google Form

Provide a copy of your Driver’s License or CA ID (with Photo)

Current TB Results: Download and complete TB Risk Assessment if needed.

Complete the Vista Unified Volunteer Application and attach it to the Google form

Complete the Vista Unified Code of Conduct Form and attach it to the Google form

Complete Ministry Safe training (e-mailed to you by Susan Bentley)

Complete Orientation with Assigned Site

Start your service learning/internship. Keep track of your hours provided by your professor: record date and type of service. Have your site supervisor or Susan Bentley sign your log at the end of your service learning/internship.

BE SURE TO NOTIFY YOUR assigned teacher/counselor/school leader AND Susan Bentley in advance if you cannot serve on a particular day.
