This Week's REVIEW in Receiving Jesus, My Guide to the Mass:

Be sure to bring your guide to mass!! We will have extra copies in English and Spanish for those who have not received this mass guide yet.

  1. During Mass, with a sincere heart, ask God for forgiveness for anything that took you away from knowing, loving and serving him this week.....during the General Confession: p. 19. (This is the Penitential Act or Confiteor)

    The Confiteor (I Confess)

I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done, and in what I have failed to do; through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault;therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters,to pray for me to the Lord our God.

  2. During the mass, listen for and receive God's forgiveness through the priest's Absolution during the Mass: May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life.

  3. Before mass, ponder and write out the words of the Responsorial Psalm : Psalm 33. Sing with a joyful heart!

Lord, let your mercy be on us, as we place our trust in you.

DEACON: A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew

R. Glory to you, O Lord

(Make the sign of the cross on your forehead, on your lips and across your heart……You are asking God to fill your whole being with HIS WORD, HIS TRUTH, and HIS LIFE: Let Jesus become what I think, what I say, what I treasure in my heart.)

The Transfiguration

17 Six days later Jesus took with him Peter and the brothers James and John and led them up a high mountain where they were alone.

As they looked on, a change came over Jesus: his face was shining like the sun, and his clothes were dazzling white.

Then the three disciples saw Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus.

So Peter spoke up and said to Jesus, “Lord, how good it is that we are here! If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

While he was talking, a shining cloud came over them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my own dear Son, with whom I am pleased—listen to him!”

When the disciples heard the voice, they were so terrified that they threw themselves face downward on the ground.

Jesus came to them and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don't be afraid!”

So they looked up and saw no one there but Jesus.

As they came down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, “Don't tell anyone about this vision you have seen until the Son of Man has been raised from death.”

HOMILY: Teaching on God’s WORD

Jesus is Transfigured on a Mountaintop

1. Jesus taught his disciples how to pray by example. He took his disciples, Peter, James, and John up to a quiet place on a mountain to pray with God the Father.

2. When we take the time to listen and talk with God in prayer, we get closer and closer to God and He fills our hearts and souls with His light and love.

3. When Jesus prayed with His Father in Heaven, he was so close to the divine power, energy and light himself that the light began to shine from his face and his clothes became dazzling white. He was transfigured before them, still himself, still Jesus but radiant and glorious!

4. Peter, James, and John saw something amazing. They saw the great leaders of the past, Moses and Elijah who were now in heaven, talking with Jesus, preparing him for all that he would go through to rescue us from sin and death forever.

5. Even more amazing, they heard God’s Voice as a cloud surrounded them: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.”

6. God the Father was confirming that Jesus was the Son of God on assignment to save all of us through his sacrifice on the cross.

7. We can see that this revelation on the mountain was a special gift from God to Peter, James, and John, maybe to help them through the hard times ahead when their beloved Jesus would be taken from them (for a time.)

8. What are you learning about who Jesus is in this story?

He carefully showed his disciples everything he wanted them to know about him so they could learn his Way of life,

9. What does Jesus want us to learn about ourselves from this story?

God wants us to listen to and obey ALL that Jesus teaches us through HIS WORD….written in the Bible.

10. Who will you share this story with?
