BIBLE CHRONICLES: Story #5: TOWER AT BABEL ABANDONED

BIBLE CHRONICLES: Story #5: TOWER AT BABEL ABANDONED

Genesis 11:1-8

The Tower of Babel

Let’s build a tower that reaches the sky. Let’s make a name for ourselves!

OPENING PRAYER

In the Name of the Father , and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, AMEN.

Dear God,

Thank you for loving us and offering us a fulfilling life and happiness with you.

Help us to LISTEN and humbly OBEY your voice and no other!

Help us to make good choices toward your TREE of LIFE and keep us from the temptation of going our own way apart from you. AMEN

1. PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING

Each person shares and completes this sentence:

Thank you God for being so____________

Example: kind, loving, caring, forgiving

2. PRAYERS for ONE ANOTHER

What are your prayer needs? (Stress, struggles?)

PRAY and receive God’s answers.

3. IS THERE SOMETHING WE CAN DO TO HELP ONE OF THESE NEEDS?

REVIEW THE STORIES

TOWER AT BABEL ABANDONED

Genesis 11: 1-8

11 The whole world had only one language, and everyone spoke it.

2 They moved to the east and found a broad valley in Babylon. There they made their home.

3 They said to one another, “Come on! Let’s make bricks and bake them well.” They used bricks instead of stones. They used tar to hold the bricks together.

4 Then they said, “Come on! Let’s build a city for ourselves. Let’s build a tower that reaches to the sky. We’ll make a name for ourselves. Then we won’t be scattered over the whole earth.”

5 But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building.

6 He said, “All these people are united and speak the same language. That is why they can do all this. Now they will be able to do anything they plan.

7 Come on! Let us go down and mix up their language. Then they will not be able to understand one other.”

8 So the Lord scattered them from there over the whole earth. And they stopped building the city.

9 There the Lord mixed up the language of the whole world. That’s why the city was called Babel. From there the Lord scattered them over the whole earth.

READ and RETELL the NEW STORY

Read the story from Scripture and Bible Chronicles.

Have each person share the main points of the story in his/her own words. VERY IMPORTANT…..

DISCUSS THE STORY TOGETHER

1. What does this story teach us about God?

God can destroy our big plans if it takes us away from loving God and others and taking good care of His Kingdom

2. What does this teach us about ourselves?

We can easily stray away from what God wants for our happiness when we don’t FIRST as God what HE WANTS for us.

3. How can we LISTEN and OBEY GOD more?

I WILL,,,,,,,

ask God first thing EVERY day: What do you want me to do today? How can learn to listen and obey you more?

4. Who will you share this story with?

My brother, my Dad, my grandparents, my best friend, my aunt…….and more

CLOSING PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name;

thy kingdom come,

thy will be done

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses, (SINS)

as we forgive those who trespass

against us;

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil,

AMEN
